In stellar company, Chabad Islington celebrates its growth at the Gherkin

Eight years after launching Chabad Islington, Rabbi Mendy and Hadasa Korer welcomed supporters and community members to a special celebratory event at the iconic Gherkin, created in partnership with Searcys at the Gherkin.

The event, which took place last Sunday 24 March, featured an appearance by ‘Judge’ Robert Rinder, known from the eponymous ITV show and Strictly Come Dancing. Himself an Islington resident and Chabad Islington supporter, Judge Rinder talked about the Talmudic dimension of his TV courtroom, shared stories from the glitzy dancefloor, and concluded by paying tribute to Chabad Islington and Rabbi Mendy Korer’s work. Rob said:

‘Chabad for me represents the most articulate expression of what inclusivity is, and above all else is that sense of overwhelming hospitality. What we need more than anything else is quality and passionate examples of what Judaism is in order to tackle the darkness. Why do I choose Chabad, because above all else, it represents that edict of inclusivity.’

The programme also included an exclusive magic show by Marvin Berglas, founder of the leading magic company Marvin’s Magic, a DJ set by Hilit Kolet, and catering by the fine dining kosher caterer Jason Millan.

Rabbi Korer, Co-Director of Chabad Islington said: ‘It has been the support, partnership and vision of people of our community that have transformed the Jewish landscape of Islington’

The event included a showcase of the kosher catering options that can be provided by Searcys at the Gherkin for Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and birthday parties.

Searcys are offering a truly amazing offer to any 2019 & 2020 bookings, offering 10% reduction in venue hire when securing Helix and Iris exclusively. Make sure to enquire about their Bar/Bat Mitzvah package too.
