Tanya Printing with descendants of its author

This Sunday, 24 June 2018, Chabad Islington organised a printing of the Tanya for the first time ever in Islington. Two of the attendees were Nadya Menuhin and her father Jeremy who are direct descendants of the author of the Tanya. The family tree begins with the Alter Rebbe, whose grandson through his daughter Dvorah became the 3rd leader of Chabad - Menachem Mendel Schneerson. This leader went on to have a son Rabbi Israel Noach Schneerson, who had a daughter Perla Dvora Zalmanson, who had a daughter Sarah Liba Mnuchin, who had a son Moshe Mnuchin, who had a son Yehudi Menuhin, who had a son Jeremy Menuhin, who had a daughter Nadya. Sunday 24 June, 4pm Join us for a printing of the holy Tanya at Chabad Islington. What is the Tanya? Tanya is the primary work of Chabad Chassidic Philosophy. It was written by Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, the first Rebbe of Chabad and printed for the first time in 1796. What is the significance of its printing? The Baal Shem Tov, the founder of the Chassidic movement, wrote that Moshiach would come “when his wellsprings are spread throughout the world”. His wellsprings are explained and disseminated through the teachings of Chabad. Printing this work in every place where Jewish People are living is a way of us making these teachings accessible to everyone and hence doing our part in hasten

Crowds gather at the second Big Jewish Summer Fete in Islington

Returning for its second year, The Big Jewish Summer Fete attracted between 800-1000 people on Sunday 10 June at Highbury Fields, Islington. Organised by Chabad Islington, The Big Jewish Summer Fete is a free festival of Jewish culture, open for the whole community to join in. Whilst celebrating the richness of Judaism and Jewish culture, the event aims to promote community cohesion and tolerance in the diverse borough of Islington. The second edition of the Big Jewish Summer Fete succeeded in bringing together Jews and non-Jews for a joyful, celebratory afternoon.
