Performed by London Classical

London Classical is formed of wind players who have developed a curiosity for the workings, sounds and playing techniques of early instruments. Brought together as part of an Academy of Ancient Music performance scheme, they are an international mix of musicians including fellows and postgraduate students from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music.

They made their concert debut in early 2018 at Guildhall as part of the Historical Performance Department concert series and have maintained regular concerts since. Their keenness to learn has had them attend historically informed courses and schemes such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment Experience Academy, The Hanover Band: Nurturing the Next Generation scheme, Amsterdam Early Music Summer School, Harmoniemusik with Boxwood & Brass and various masterclasses. As well as their chamber concerts, their players have performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Britten Sinfonia and the Guildhall Baroque Orchestra.

London Classical delights in bringing these beautiful but sometimes uncompromising early instruments to life, without sacrificing the technical competency, tightness of ensemble, and musical imagination expected of players of modern instruments. A flexible ensemble with varying instrumentalists on a project-by-project basis, their core is comprised of a woodwind sextet excited to revive forgotten gems of the eighteenth century.
