For any rabbi to be successful at sermons the first rule is joke telling and the second rule is don’t speak for too long. Join our very own Rabbi Mendy for a quick and fun stand-up comedy of some Chelm classics.

Rabbi Mendy Korer is Founder of Chabad Islington & and the Big Jewish Summer Fete. He loves meeting new people in the area and creating a more open and meaningful community.

AVIVA DAUTCH

Dr Aviva Dautch is an award-winning poet, academic and curator. She teaches English Literature and Creative Writing at the British Library, Jewish Culture at Roehampton University and Modern Jewish Literature at JW3 and the London School of Jewish Studies. In 2017, Aviva won the Primers prize for emerging poets and in 2018 received an Authors' Foundation Award from the Society of Authors. Her poems, reviews and literary essays are widely published.

VANESSA WOOLF

A mysterious and magical real-life figure, Dr Falk lived in London around 1700. He was rumoured to have an alchemical laboratory on London Bridge where (they said!) he made a Golem from Thames Mud.

Vanessa Woolf is “London’s resident storyteller” (Time Out). She tells stories for adults that are real, exciting, magical and engaging from start to finish. She performs nationally and internationally, her clients include the Southbank Centre, the Globe Theatre, Royal Academy of Arts, Kensington Palace, Royal College of Music, V&A and the British Academy of Arts and Sciences.  She has appeared on BBC TV and radio talking about London stories and storytelling and created storytelling podcasts for Guardian and Londonist. Her TEDx talk on ‘Finding Magic’ was recorded in Belfast in November 2017.

Rabbi Hillel Simon is the Rabbinical Head of Shomrim (supervisors) for KLBD (Kosher Division of the London Beth Din) certified caterers, licensees and restaurants. He is on hand to answer any questions that may arise from the shomrim or caterers at all times of day and night.

DR TALI LOEWENTHAL

Dr Tali Loewenthal is a Teaching Fellow at University Collenge London lecturing in Jewish Spirituality. Born in Haifa, he was brought up in London, attending Hackney Downs School. He studied Hebrew Literature and Jewish History at University College London (1968-71), followed by a PhD on Hasidism (1981). He is the author of Communicating the Infinite: the Emergence of the Habad School (University of Chicago Press: Chicago, 1990) and many articles, both academic and popular.

Tali Loewenthal lectures at academic conferences, in this country and abroad, and also gives regular talks on Jewish thought outside the academe.
